What a health factor is
The Aave documentation defines it as a single ratio measuring the safety of a borrow position: health factor equals total collateral value multiplied by the weighted average liquidation threshold, divided by total borrow value. When it falls below 1, the collateral no longer sufficiently covers the borrowed amount and the position becomes eligible for liquidation.
Everything else is a consequence of that one number. Collateral falling in price pushes it down, borrowing more pushes it down, repaying or adding collateral pushes it back up. Why a dashboard is not enough
A dashboard shows the health factor at the moment you look at it. You check at 9am and the number is comfortable. The drawdown happens at 3am, and the next time you open the tab the liquidation has already been executed on chain and settled. Nothing about the dashboard was wrong, it just had no way to reach you.
Liquidations are not reversible. Once the transaction lands, part of your debt has been repaid by a liquidator and part of your collateral is gone at a discount. The only useful moment is the window before it happens, which is exactly the window a page you have to open cannot cover.
That is the difference between something you check and something that reaches you. Frequently asked questions
- Does it work for Morpho and Euler too?
- Yes. Otomato detects lending positions on Morpho and Euler from the same wallet address and monitors their risk the same way it monitors Aave.
- Do I need to connect a wallet?
- No. Otomato is read-only. You paste a wallet address and positions are detected from public on-chain data. No signatures, no approvals, and Otomato cannot move your funds.
- Can I choose the threshold?
- You do not have to. Otomato applies its own defaults so a position is monitored from the moment it is detected, with nothing to pick or type before the first alert can reach you.
- Does it work on multiple chains?
- Yes. Otomato monitors positions across the EVM chains it supports, and you can add several wallet addresses to the same account.
- Telegram or the app?
- Both. Alerts are delivered through the Otomato Telegram bot and through the native iOS and Android app, where the alert opens the position it refers to.
