How the market cap calculator works
A token's price is just its market cap divided by supply, so to find the price at a target market cap you reverse it: implied price = target market cap ÷ circulating supply. The multiple is that implied price divided by the current price, how many times the token would have to grow to get there.
This tool uses circulating supply, the tokens actually in the market today, rather than fully diluted supply, which would include locked and unvested tokens and make the target far harder to reach. Low-supply tokens can look deceptively cheap per coin, which is exactly what this comparison exposes.
It is a thought experiment, not a forecast, market caps reflect real demand, liquidity and utility. Otomato tracks the moves that actually happen to the tokens you hold and alerts you when they matter.
The complete guide
Price is market cap divided by supply
The single most misunderstood idea in crypto is that a low price per coin means a coin is cheap. Price is just market cap divided by circulating supply, so a token with a huge supply can have a tiny unit price and still be worth billions. This calculator makes that explicit by repricing one token at another's market cap.
Divide the target market cap by the coin's circulating supply and you get the price it would trade at to reach that valuation. The multiple against today's price shows how far that really is.
Circulating supply versus fully diluted
This tool uses circulating supply, the tokens actually liquid and tradable today. Fully diluted valuation counts every token that will ever exist, including locked and unvested allocations, so an FDV-based target is far harder to reach and often flatters low-float tokens.
- Implied price = target market cap / circulating supply.
- Low-supply tokens need enormous per-coin prices to reach large caps.
- Real market caps reflect demand, liquidity and utility, not wishful maths.
Use it to sanity-check a narrative, not to size a position. And when a token you actually hold moves, Otomato alerts you on the change that matters.
Frequently asked questions
- How do you calculate a token’s price at a target market cap?
- Divide the target market cap by the token’s circulating supply: implied price = target market cap ÷ circulating supply. The multiple is that implied price divided by the current price, which tells you how many times the token would have to grow to get there.
- Should I use circulating or fully diluted supply?
- This tool uses circulating supply, which reflects tokens actually in the market today. Fully diluted valuation (FDV) uses total supply including locked and unvested tokens, so an FDV-based target is far harder to reach. For a fair comparison between two live tokens, circulating supply is the better basis.
- Is "if it had the market cap of X" realistic?
- It is a thought experiment, not a prediction. Market caps reflect real demand, liquidity and utility, and low-supply tokens can look deceptively cheap per coin. Use it to sanity-check narratives, not to size positions.
