How the liquidation price calculator works
A leveraged position is liquidated when your losses eat through your margin down to the exchange's maintenance requirement. For an isolated-margin position, the liquidation price for a long is roughly entry × (1 − 1/leverage + maintenance margin), and for a short it is entry × (1 + 1/leverage − maintenance margin).
The higher your leverage, the closer the liquidation price sits to your entry, so a small move can close you out. This tool assumes a single isolated position and ignores fees and funding, so real venues like Hyperliquid, Binance and Bybit will differ slightly with their own maintenance-margin tiers.

What liquidation means in leveraged trading
When you open a leveraged position on a perpetual futures venue like Hyperliquid, Binance or Bybit, you post a fraction of the position as margin. If the market moves against you far enough that your losses would consume that margin down to the exchange's maintenance requirement, the exchange force-closes the position. That price is your liquidation price.
The whole point of knowing it in advance is that liquidation is almost always avoidable. It happens to traders who either used too much leverage or stopped watching the position, not to traders who planned their exit.
How leverage moves your liquidation price
Leverage is the single biggest driver of where your liquidation price sits. The higher the leverage, the smaller the price move needed to wipe out your margin, so the liquidation price creeps toward your entry.
- 2x long: liquidation is roughly 50% below entry, a lot of room.
- 10x long: liquidation is roughly 10% below entry.
- 25x long: liquidation is roughly 4% below entry, a routine candle can hit it.
- Shorts mirror this above the entry price.
This is why experienced traders treat high leverage as a way to reduce margin, not to size up risk. The position size should come from your risk plan; leverage just funds it.
How to avoid getting liquidated
Use lower leverage, keep spare margin, and place a stop-loss above your liquidation price so you exit on your terms rather than the exchange's. Cross-margin pushes liquidation further away by backing the position with your whole balance, at the cost of risking that balance.
