Pendle PT Maturity: What Happens When Your Position Expires

Pendle Principal Tokens (PT) have a fixed maturity date. When that date arrives, your position changes state. Understanding what happens at maturity helps you plan your next move.

How Pendle PT Works

Pendle splits yield-bearing assets into two components: Principal Tokens (PT) and Yield Tokens (YT). When you hold PT, you have a claim on the underlying asset at maturity.

Before maturity, PT trades at a discount to the underlying. This discount represents the fixed yield you lock in. At maturity, PT becomes redeemable 1:1 for the underlying asset.

What Happens at Maturity

When your PT position reaches maturity:

  • The PT becomes redeemable for the underlying asset
  • You need to manually redeem or roll over your position
  • If you do nothing, your capital sits idle (not earning yield)

Unlike lending positions that continue automatically, PT positions require action at maturity. Missing the date means your capital stops working.

Why Maturity Dates Are Easy to Miss

Pendle positions often have maturities weeks or months in the future. You open the position, see the fixed yield, and move on. By the time maturity arrives, you might have forgotten about it entirely.

If you have multiple PT positions with different maturities, tracking them manually becomes impractical.

Other Pendle Alerts That Matter

Beyond maturity reminders, Pendle positions can be affected by:

  • PT implied rate changes: Significant rate movements affect your expected return
  • Underlying depeg: If the underlying asset loses its peg, your PT value is affected
  • Security incidents: Issues with Pendle or the underlying protocol
  • Points and season updates: Changes to incentive programs
